Kalbarri Skywalks

 

The wait is over the Kalbarri Skywalk is now open...

 

The Kalbarri Skywalk project, which involved the construction of two lookouts extending over the edge of the Murchison River Gorge, has opened in the Kalbarri National Park.

Breathtaking twin skywalks will become a major tourism draw card for Kalbarri, providing stunning vistas of the Murchison River Gorge's rust-red cliffs, flowing water and bushland from high above.

The cantilevered steel structures, which are anchored deep into the sandstone, allow visitors to look down into the gorge through steel mesh. The bigger walkway extends 25 metres out over the gorge edge, which is way further than the Grand Canyon Skywalk in America, so it is quite spectacular.

A complete redevelopment of the existing Z Bend lookout with parking for coaches and large caravans, a kiosk, walking trails, interpretative signage, shade shelters and toilets. The new Skywalk Kalbarri will be universally accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities and they will be able to enjoy feeling like they are floating above the Murchison River Gorge.

The Kalbarri National Park Skywalk is a short distance of 1.5 kilometres from another of the parks top attractions, Natures Window. The Kalbarri lookout project has been made possible thanks to the Royalty's for Regions funding and the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

 

Opening Times and Entry Cost


The Kalbarri Skywalk Opening hours and all for the inland gorge sites of the Kalbarri National Park are open from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

Kalbarri Skywalk entry fee and prices for the inland gorge sites cost $15 per vehicle (carrying up to 12 passengers) and an $8 fee for concession holders. All coastal sites of the National Park are free to visit. You can collect entry tickets at the front gate or at the visitors information centre. The Kalbarri Skywalk cafe is now open, serving food and drinks to visitors as they take in the views of the Kalbarri Gorges right next to the Kalbarri Sky walk.  The Kalbarri Sky Bridge kiosk is open from 8 am to 3 pm daily and offers casual dining, take away food, as well as hot and cold beverages.

Kalbarri National Park


Kalbarri National Park surrounds the lower reaches of the Murchison River, which has cut a magnificent 80km gorge through the red and white banded sandstone to create formations such as Nature's Window and The Loop, Z-Bend and Hawks Head, with scenic gorge views at the Ross Graham Lookout and views of the town and river mouth at Meanarra Hill.

Along the coast, wind and wave erosion has exposed the sedimentary layers in the sandstone cliffs that plunge more than 100 metres to the ocean. Red Bluff, Mushroom Rock, Rainbow Valley, Eagle Gorge, Island Rock and the Natural Bridge are among the best-known features of this rugged coast.

 

Natural Attractions

Kalbarri's exceptional wildflowers are at their best in spring and early summer. At the mouth of the Murchison River is the town of Kalbarri, which supports thriving fishing and tourism industries and provides a base for park visitors.

 

Activities

Kalbarri National Park is popular for sightseeing, picnicking, abseiling, rafting and canoeing (only after heavy rains and only if you are experienced, well equipped and have first contacted park rangers for advice).
